We have a lot to orchestrate to deliver great work as data professionals. Dependencies on other teams, competing needs from business partners, and the complexity of the modern data environment make it difficult to stay on top of things. It's easy to get stressed out and overwhelmed.
Top of Your Game is the system I use to bring order to this chaos. After trying lots of tools and techniques, this is the system that I continue to use to effectively management work. It has allowed me to focus on the things that matter most to me and my work. It will do the same for you.
What it is:
Top of Your Game gives you access to the Top of Your Game Tasks and Projects Kanban boards in Notion. It has three modules:
- Build Your Tools: A step-by-step to set up the Tasks and Projects lists in Notion
- Build Your Routines: A walk through of the four routines I use to help you consistently manage my work
- Build Your System: A guide to using the Tasks and Projects list with other tools such as Email, slack, and Jira.
Why it works:
The most important decision data professionals make is how to spend our time. With all the demands on our time, it is hard to know where to start when we open our laptop for the day. Emails, Slack messages, Jira stories, meetings, and dependencies on other people make it difficult to know at any given moment what I should be doing and what might be slipping through the cracks.
Basic To-Do lists or systems for Not Started / In Progress / Done don't cut it (How do I track that question I asked in Slack that I need answered before I can continue my work?). Complex systems quickly become an exercise in managing work rather than delivering it.
